FROM ONE CEO TO ANOTHER

Vimeo’s outgoing CEO is taking the same role at Tubi

Anjali Sud is switching gears. The Vimeo CEO—who first signed on as the company’s director of marketing in 2014—has announced her decision to move on in favor of a similar position at Fox Corp. Starting September 1, Sud will take over as the CEO of Tubi (a role previously filled by founder Farhad Massoudi).

“The future of streaming TV is free, and I am excited to join the Tubi team to help shape the next wave of entertainment, by giving all people access to all the world’s stories. Tubi is doing things differently in a space that is being imminently disrupted, and that is my kind of opportunity.”

That opportunity comes after several rocky years at Vimeo. The company’s disastrous IPO has resulted in multiple rounds of layoffs, including a series of job cuts that shaved off 11% of Vimeo’s workforce in January. In the wake of all that upheaval, Sud’s departure isn’t a huge surprise—but it is a big step for Tubi.

The incoming CEO will report to Tubi Media Group CEO Paul Cheesbrough, who has already spoken glowingly about her potential contributions:

“As Tubi continues to scale and solidify its momentum as the most watched free TV and movie streaming service in the U.S., she is the perfect candidate to lead Tubi into a new era of creativity, growth and market leadership.”

That transition may be good news for Tubi and its self-reported 64 million monthly active users, but it leaves Vimeo without a long-term head. Until one can be found, board member Adam Gross will take the lead as interim CEO.

This small cell phone store is doing big things on YouTube Shorts

If you’re looking for a new cellphone, Zam Zam Electronics Trading is the place to go. And once you’ve secured your device, you might as well take a gander at the store’s YouTube channel.

The Zam Zam brothers have turned their small, Dubai-based cellphone shop into an internationally-known locale thanks to the hilarity of their short-form skits. The two creators have a knack for turning everyday interactions into comedy gold—especially when it comes to Zam Zam’s zany customers.

When it comes to YouTube Play Buttons, however, the Zam Zam brothers have long since soared past gold. Their Shorts-centric channel has accumulated a grand total of 21.6 million subscribers since 2020 and now claims nearly 8.5 billion lifetime views. That number is on the rise:

The Zam Zam brothers first surpassed 1 billion monthly views in April. Data from Gospel Stats.

In fact, a Short posted just last week has already picked up 9 million views. And that’s nothing compared to the Zam Zam brothers’ most-watched video: their top skit of all time has collected a whopping 136 million views since March 2023.

Can Zam Zam Electronics keep up the pace?

The shop’s charismatic founders don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

  • During our last seven-day count, the official “Zamzam Electronics Trading” YouTube channel picked up 374.9 million weekly views.

  • That massive total put the Shorts hub at #16 in our Global Top 50.

  • It’s an important distinction for the Dubai-based channel: As of this week, Zam Zam Electronics is the United Arab Emirates’ only representative in the Global Top 50.

MrBeast just broke into the world of mobile gaming with a brand-new collab

MrBeast is trying his hand at video game design. The YouTube star (whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson) has joined forces with the developer behind Stumble Guys to introduce a series of new levels, characters, features, emotes, and animations to the popular mobile game. Those updates will allow fans to experience MrBeast’s viral video challenges and studio set-up for themselves. The first release to come out of Donaldson’s partnership with developer Scopely, for instance, will revolve around a virtual warehouse inspired by his home base.

Fans can look forward to “crazy challenges and unbelievable stunts with surprising twists.”

According to a recent press release, MrBeast’s first custom level is due out sometime “this summer”—thanks to Scopely, Stumble Guys players can get a sneak peek at the YouTuber’s designs this week. (If you’re not an avid player just yet, you still have plenty of time to catch up. With its easy-to-learn racing mechanics, colorful graphics, and title conventions, Stumble Guys’ multiplayer format should already feel familiar to fans of the oft-streamed game Fall Guys.)

“I chose to collaborate with Stumble Guys because the game is the perfect platform to serve as a canvas for my creativity and bring custom-created MrBeast experiences to both of our communities.”

Jimmy Donaldson (aka MrBeast)

Donaldson and Scopely’s shared fondness for adventurous challenges and high-stakes obstacles is far from the only motivating factor behind their partnership. As demonstrated by similar collabs led by creators like Techno Gamerz and publishers like Activision, the merging of video game fans and dedicated YouTube viewers can produce big wins for both parties.
