VISIONARY VOICES

TikTok is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with nods to its own #APIFamily

May has arrived and that means itā€™s officially the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. To mark the occasion, TikTok is rolling out a series of initiatives to honor its very own #APIFamily:

ā€œThis Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Heritage Month and year-round, weā€™re committed to highlighting the stories of our API community by amplifying the voices who continue to break barriers and use their platform to share the diverse spectrum of API history and heritage.ā€

The #APIFamily hashtag will be applied to the latest installment of TikTokā€™s Livestream Series, which is hosted on the TikTok Live hub and will feature live performances from API artists, dancers, musicians, and other creators on May 19. Visitors who search for #APIFamily can also browse videos from API creators big and small.

In addition to its #APIFamily spotlight, TikTok is launching an #AsianMusic hub that will feature playlists curated by artists like Keshi and Tesher.

Last but not least, meet TikTokā€™s latest Visionary Voices:

The centerpiece of TikTokā€™s #APIFamily push is its Visionary Voices list, which acknowledges some of the most esteemed Asian and Pacific Islander creators across the platform. Short-form stars recognized on the list include impresario SeanDoesMagic, portrait photographer David Suh, pop star H.E.R., and chef Hwoo Lee; small businesses like Canadian pottery company Grumpy Kids Studio also made the honor roll.

Spotter is obsessed with helping YouTubers achieve financial and creative freedom. Thatā€™s why theyā€™ve invested more than $740 million in 1,100 channel partners since 2019ā€”but as Colin and Samir put it, ā€œitā€™s not just acceleration through capital, itā€™s with knowledge.ā€

From $100,000 to $50 million, every Spotter deal is tailored to fit YouTubersā€™ exact needsā€”meaning you can spend your new funds to grow your channel or business.

Hereā€™s what two top YouTubers have to say about Spotterā€™s  lucrative licensing deals :

Airrack (11.7M Subscribers): ā€œSpotter was there for me.ā€
When Airrack wanted to expand his production team in 2022, he knew exactly where to turn to: ā€œIf I immediately need cash, obviously Spotter is where I would go for that.ā€

Lizzy Capri (6.56M Subscribers): ā€œSpotterā€™s helped me build out my production teamā€¦Iā€™ve been able to buy my very own content house and spent the last four months building out a whole studio warehouse where my team can work and grow.ā€

These kids can master any dance routineā€”and their parents are pretty hip, too

Itā€™s not hard to see why Aayush & Abhay refer to their channel as ā€œThe Happy Family World.ā€ The two brothers have mastered the art of sharing joy through dance, and their videos often include cameos from their equally upbeat (and on-beat) parents.

In fact, videos featuring additional members of Aayush and Abhayā€™s family tend to be among their most popular clips. This Short celebrating the duoā€™s ultra-supportive mother, for instance, has earned a whopping 73 million views.

Aayush and Abhay have plenty to dance about.

The siblings have been strutting their stuff on YouTube since 2018, but their viewership numbers have skyrocketed over the course of 2023.

Aayush and Abhay saw a huge leap in monthly views between March and April 2023. Data from Gospel Stats.

Luckily, that momentous success hasnā€™t stopped the brothers from taking time to celebrate their fans. One of Aayush and Abhayā€™s most recent videosā€”a ā€œ2 Million Subscribers Celebrationā€ posted only two days agoā€”thanks viewers for their ā€œincredible supportā€ and ā€œloyalty.ā€

Combined with the brothersā€™ impressive choreo skills, that dedicated fanbase has delivered some pretty incredible results:

  • During our last seven-day count, Aayush and Abhayā€™s channel pulled 266.1 million weekly views.

  • That massive total increased the siblingsā€™ viewership by 33% week-over-week.

  • All in all, those landmark stats helped Aayush and Abhay secure a spot at #31 in our Global Top 50 chart.

BITTERSWEET GOODBYES

3 of the worldā€™s top VTubers are leaving VShojo. Hereā€™s why:

Itā€™s been an eventful week for VShojo. Over the last few days, three of the eleven VTubers repped by the San Francisco-based talent company have elected not to renew their contracts.

Silvervale, Veibae, and Nyanners are cutting ties with VShojo.

VShojo announced the departure of Silvervale (who has 441K Twitch followers), Veibae (625K YouTube subscribers), and Nyanners (1.25 million YouTube subscribers) on Twitter, where it offered well wishes to all three creators. Nyannersā€™ and Veibaeā€™s own tweets on the subject were slightly less formal. The latter VTuber said she chose to leave VShojo because ā€œnew contracts didnt make any financial sense to me,ā€ while Nyanners noted that her decision to leave is ā€œnot a reflection of my relationship with any of the other members, and it is something I have been seriously deliberating for a while.ā€

Fans of the departing creators wonā€™t have to worry too much about the implications of their separation from VShojo. The VTuber-focused company confirmed that all three creators will retain the IP to their characters, so theyā€™ll be able to ā€œcontinue as the creators you love.ā€

The other eight VTubers repped by VShojo (Ironmouse, Zentreya, Projekt Melody, Apricot, Hime Hajime, Haruka, Nazuna Amemiya, and Kson) have not announced any updates to their contractsā€”although Kson isnā€™t necessarily against a change of pace. In a recent Twitter thread, the creator said that if she was offered a better contract elsewhere and ā€œVshojo couldnā€™t afford more, hell yeah Iā€™m down. Contracts are BUSINESS after all!ā€

RDC went head-to-head with AMP. Which YouTube crew came out on top?

On April 29, members of the YouTube group AMP took on the stars of RDCWorld in a flag football game held during the NFLā€™s annual draft.

The resulting action was just as dramatic as youā€™d expect: there were impressive plays, nail-biting near-misses, andā€”of courseā€”stimulating commentary from Tyreek Hill and Andrew Hawkins. The hostsā€™ most brutal (and entertaining) exchange: ā€œI guess RDC stands for Receivers Donā€™t Catch.ā€
