FAZING OUT
The CEO of FaZe Clan is out after spending five years as the gaming org’s top exec
As FaZe Clan’s stock attempts to rebound from its lowest price yet, the gaming and entertainment organization is making a change at the top of its corporate ladder. Its board has elected to fire Lee Trink, ending his five-year tenure as the FaZe Clan CEO.
Trink led FaZe’s evolution from a group of entertainers to a multiplatform empire stocked with esports teams.
The recording industry vet highlighted those “decorated and successful esports franchises” when announcing his company’s decision to pursue a public offering in 2021. He saw earnings potential for esports beyond the revenues that industry had previously generated.
“We’ve only just scratched the surface. The buzz around e-sports is disproportionately large compared to the money. I think we’re in the first inning of e-sports’ rise as an economic powerhouse in sports.”
Converting hype into dollars proved to be easier said than done. Defaulting investors and mass layoffs have defined a chaotic post-merger period at FaZe. With the company’s stock facing a potential delisting on the Nasdaq exchange, the FaZe board elected to fire Trink on September 9.
FaZe’s new top exec has his work cut out for him.
Trink’s successor is an internal promotion. FaZe CFO Christoph Pachler, a veteran of Sony Pictures Television and Playboy, will ascend to the CEO role.
As Pachler faces FaZe’s uncertain financial future, he will also be confronted with the organization’s internal strife. Questions about who should be a FaZe Clan creator have led to infighting between longtime members and decision-makers. Hopefully, FaZe’s new leader will be able to Pach up some of those sore spots.

Lawyer-turned-creator Reb Masel provides counsel on TikTok
Reb Masel graduated from law school and became a bar-certified lawyer at age 26. But that all happened in 2020, so Masel had to find an unconventional outlet for her legal know-how.
Her younger sister helped her get into TikTok.
Many people try to avoid hearing from lawyers unless they have to. But TikTok provided Masel with an opportunity to represent herself and her profession in a way that had rarely been done before.
To Masel’s TikTok trolls: No, she’s not the secretary. When you imagine what an attorney looks like, your mind may not jump to someone like Masel, but she believes that her kind are common in the world of law. They just need proper representation.
“I think obviously from this side of the fence, as an attorney myself, I look around in my field and I see copy and paste of me everywhere. I am everywhere. There are so many of me in this field, truly, but from the outside looking in, how do they know that? You don’t have as much representation of me as an attorney in our pop culture outside of Legally Blonde. Truly.”
A double life on TikTok and in the court of law has kept her busy at all times. But this Marvelous Ms. Masel is seeing incredible results from her hard work:
She now reaches 1.6 million followers on TikTok.
In total, her account has picked up more than 60 million lifetime likes.
Need a lawyer? You can hire Masel as the defense attorney in your civic case.
GOTTA BE THE SHOES
Stompin’ in my Bucketsquad 1s
A great basketball player needs a great basketball shoe. And even though the Bucketsquad 1s are designed for “comfort” and “every day” use, they honor the hardcourt prowess of Bucketsquad Co-Founder Jesse Riedel — a.k.a. Jesser.
“We sought to make a shoe that reflects Bucketsquad and our amazing community of supporters.”
That’s how the Executive Producer of Bucketsquad, Marko Preocanin, described the Bucketsquad 1s. The versatile and stylish shoes were designed by sneaker industry vets and produced out of a partnership between SoleSavvy and Garrixon Studios.
Those two firms have established a joint venture that works with creators to develop footwear lines. Earlier this year, that partnership allowed lifestyle YouTuber CJ So Cool to get his kicks.
Jesser’s shoe deal is informed by the success of his basketball content on YouTube.
With immersive, high-profile videos, Jesser has pushed the envelope for digital sports content. (Personally, I love his NBA tryout vlog.) His main channel has outpaced major sports leagues on YouTube this year, and that’s led to some pretty impressive offline opportunities.
Fans can preorder the Bucketsquad 1s until September 24.

Move over, MoMa: A recent report in The New York Times claims that The Tank Museum is the first museum to get 100 million life views on YouTube.
A niche destination located on a military base in Southwestern England may seem like an unexpected YouTube hit, but viewers have eaten up The Tank Museum’s video essays about historic battles and military science. Its own collection is part of the fun, too. Hi, Little Willie!
