A DAMGOOD IDEA
The D’Amelios are reportedly betting $20 million on their next big venture
According to a new report from the Wall Street Journal—which cites “people familiar with the matter”—the D’Amelios are teaming up with music industry startup Firebird to launch something new: DamGood Mgmnt.
That title is the tentative name of the TikTok-famous family’s talent management firm, which will reportedly keep tabs on the D’Amelios’ growing venture portfolio while also working with musically-inclined creators. (That focus makes sense given the career aspirations of the D’Amelio children; both Charli and Dixie have released singles over the past few years.)
Per the WSJ, DamGood Management already has $20 million to work with.
Firebird (which focuses on helping artists find opportunities across multiple media formats and platforms) has so far raised $400 million from deep-pocketed backers like Goldman Sachs Group and the Pritzker Organization. Per the WSJ, $20 million of that funding will be set aside to establish the D’Amelios’ latest venture—a Dam Good start for any up-and-coming management firm.

Meet the International Master behind YouTube’s most-watched chess channel
Levy Rozman has been playing chess since he was seven years old. All that hard work has paid off in a big way: at just 27 years old, Rozman is now an International Master, the creator of YouTube’s most-watched chess channel (aka GothamChess), and an author with his first book on the way.
Plus, he’s become “the internet’s chess teacher.”
And that’s a good thing, because teaching chess is Rozman’s favorite pastime. It’s also what he was up to before becoming an online sensation. The 2020 arrival of COVID-19 forced the creator—who was then a private chess instructor—to move his instructional content online. Luckily, Rozman had streamed as a hobby in the past, so sharing his knowledge through Twitch didn’t involve too much on-the-job learning. And with a little elbow grease, it wasn’t long before he had enough footage to turn clips from his live streams into YouTube videos.
Rozman’s educational content hit the platform at exactly the right moment. Netflix had just released a new chess-themed series, The Queen’s Gambit, which led to a surge of interest in the game during 2020. As curious viewers scrolled through YouTube to learn more, the recommendation algorithm pointed them to Rozman’s videos—and his talent for teaching did the rest.
GothamChess saw a huge increase in views during the first month of 2023. Data from Gospel Stats.
Nowadays, the chess champion’s YouTube channel claims nearly 4 million subscribers.
Rozman’s fans can find him on TikTok, too. On that video hub, the creator just hit 1 million followers.
And, of course, he’s still streaming to almost 1 million followers on the platform that started it all: Twitch.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
After scoring 11 billion lifetime views, YouTube’s favorite moralist is making a movie
Dhar Mann is bringing two of his most beloved characters to the big screen. Since appearing together in occasional videos on Mann’s channel, middle schoolers Jay (portrayed by Shaun Dixon) and Mikey (Kaido Lee Roberts) have attracted a loyal fanbase thanks to their mischievous schemes and frequent comeuppance.
Now, the two troublemakers are getting their own movie.
It’s an unexpected announcement for Jay and Mikey’s biggest fans. The two characters were absent from Mann’s moralistic videos for such an extended period that viewers actually signed a petition in hopes of bringing them back.
Luckily, the duo’s fans had nothing to worry about: in addition to a nationally-distributed film set to be released later this year, a June 8 trailer heralded the arrival of a web series called Jay and Mikey, which premiered on YouTube the same day. The two title characters will lead new episodes every Thursday.
Those weekly installments should tide viewers over as they await the arrival of a Jay-and-Mikey-themed movie. Dhar Mann Studios is set to produce the film, which will revolve around Jay’s enrollment in an evil military school and Mikey’s attempt to free his buddy. Dixon and Roberts will reprise their roles as the trouble-making duo in both that upcoming film and Mann’s latest web series.
