2023 STREAMY AWARDS 🏆

And the Streamy Award goes to…

The 2023 Streamy Awards have drawn to a close. Sunday’s action-packed show had it all: pithy jokes from creator-slash-host MatPat, poignant acceptance speeches from winners like Dylan Mulvaney, and even a cardboard cut-out featuring one half of Rhett & Link.

By the end of the night, 50 awards had been handed out to top creators by presenters like Ryan Trahan, The Try Guys‘ Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld, Smosh‘s Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, TikTok NPC streamer Pinkydoll, Colin and Samir, Dream, Michelle Khare, Lizzy McAlpine, Tana Mongeau, and xQc.

Here’s how a few of this year’s biggest categories shook out:

  • For the fourth time in a row, MrBeast took home Creator of the Year.🥇

  • Kai Cenat snagged Streamer of the Year for the second year running. 🏆

  • Show of the Year went to Michelle Khare and her daredevil series Challenge Accepted. 💪

  • The first-ever Rolling Stone Sound of the Year award recognized Meghan Trainor and her song “Made You Look.” 🎤

DATA • GLOBAL TOP 50 📈

From vocal acrobatics to anime, this creator never refuses a challenge

Dharni is always down to showcase his skills. The Singapore-based creator has become famous for “making weird sounds” with his mouth (his words, not ours), but Dharni isn’t just a world-class beatboxer. He’s also an avid participant in “uWu championships,” “sound challenges," “beatbox speed challenges” and even the occasional “ora ora challenge.”

In other words: Dharni might have a minor competitive streak.

Luckily, that ambitious spirit is a big draw on YouTube Shorts. Dharni’s vocal challenges have earned him 3.3 million subscribers and routinely attract tens of millions of views. In fact, this clip alone has earned 80 million views since August 12—and that’s not even Dharni’s most-watched video of the month.

Dharni’s channel hit a major high this month. Data from Gospel Stats.

Now, the success of Dharni’s competitive clips have pulled him into a different kind of ranking system: the Global Top 50.

  • In fact, Dharni’s channel finished at #21 in this week’s Global Top 50, putting him just above longtime chart stalwarts like Alan Chikin Chow and Justin Flom.

  • As for the stats behind that ranking? During our last seven-day count, Dharni’s channel earned 292.1 million weekly views.

  • That massive total upped the beatboxer’s YouTube traffic by 56% week-over-week, bringing him to a lifetime view count of over 1 billion.

SUBTEMBER RETURNS

The “most rewarding time of the year” has (almost) arrived on Twitch

Deck the halls and hang the studio lights: Subtember will be here in just three days time. For the seventh year running, Twitch is giving viewers a full month to earn double-digit discounts on some of its most popular subscriptions. Web-based buyers can expect 25% discounts on one-month subs and three-month subs purchased between September 1 and October 1. For six-month subs, the discount goes up to 30%.

Those incentives are good news for streamers hoping to return to a 70/30 revenue split by qualifying for Twitch’s Partner Plus program. All subscriptions purchased during Subtember will deliver Partner Plus points to creators before the service officially goes live in October.

It’s the season of giving (and receiving a 25% discount on gifted subs).

Fans interested in spreading some Subtember spirit will get a 25% discount on any subscriptions gifted to other viewers. If your loved ones are more interested in sweatshirts than subs, you can also head to the “Twitch Cave” to get 20% off on merch.

Subtember discounts come with their fair share of fine print (à la Santa’s naughty or nice list), so be sure to check out the official FAQ here.

Dream’s latest fundraiser celebrates his $100,000 duel with Technoblade

Two years ago, MrBeast challenged Dream and Technoblade to battle it out for $100,000. The resulting Minecraft duel was one for the ages—and so was the creators’ friendship.

Now, Dream is giving fans a chance to relive their epic battle while donating to the Sarcoma Foundation in Technoblade’s honor. Earlier this week, the creator uploaded additional footage from the music video for “Until I End Up Dead,” a project he put together earlier this year in collaboration with Technoblade’s father (aka MrTechnodad). Fans can check out the never-before-seen footage—and donate to the Sarcoma Foundation—here.
